Collier Knights baseball team wearing pink jerseys for Breast Cancer Awareness Month Naples Daily News
To get a $50 reduction on its entrance fee for a tournament in Cape Coral on Oct. 21 and 22, the Collier Knights decided the players would wear pink jerseys in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The tournament offered all participating teams the discount since proceeds from the event will go to the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa.
"The choice was to show our support for the women and mothers who believe in us and help make this team what it is," Knights head coach John Landi said. "Without mothers, no kids are playing travel baseball. A lot of people think it has to do with the fathers. Believe me, it's the moms working behind the scenes who make teams go."
Besides being a travel team, the 13U Knights also play in the local Cal Ripken League.
To raise funds for the trip, the Knights are holding a spaghetti dinner night on Nov. 3 at Fred's Diner on Immokalee Road. The cost is $15 per adult and $10 for children 4 to 10 years old. Kids under four eat free.
The Knights are comprised of Tate Knapke, Cameron Calkins, Joel Cosme, Chad Crowley, Trevor Davenport, Matthew Franchino, Joseph Goldblatt, Max Landi, Jeremy Long, Holden Patterson, Reid Romero, and Mitchell Stemen.
Assisting Landi with the coaching duties are Tom Franchino, Greg Davenport, and Jerry Gershon.
For more information and to purchase tickets, contact John Landi at 2896297.
