Temat postu: North Queensland Cowboys turn their focus to retai
North Queensland Cowboys turn their focus to retaining the duo of coach Neil Henry and fullback Matt Bowen
Johnathan Thurston's resigning on Monday has all but completed the trio of key signatures Cowboys officials had earmarked as priority signings for the club's future after Test props James Tamou and Matt Scott recommitted during the preseason.
Promising youngsters Jason Taumalolo and Kane Linnett have also signed new deals with retention focus turning to Bowen with Henry negotiations "fairly advanced" according to Cowboys boss Peter Jourdain.
Neil has always been right at the top of our list of priorities and we have actually been working away quietly behind the scenes on a new deal for a few weeks now," Jourdain said.
"Neil was happy for us to focus on getting some of the major deals done with players we considered vital to what we are building here.
"But always in the front of my mind was ensuring we retained Neil. He has been a huge part of building this group into one we believe can do something special.
has done a wonderful job and is the leader of this football club and we want him to remain so."
With the Dragons' Steve Price and Broncos coach Anthony Griffin needing vast improvements from their sides in 2013 to retain their positions, the Cowboys are keen to move quickly on Henry, moncler homme, and an announcement is likely within the next week.
"I am not going to preempt anything. Until a deal is finalised, anything can happen," Jourdain said.
"But Neil wants to remain here and we want him so that is a good place to start."
The desire to remain part of a premiershipcalibre squad has been espoused by those who have remained at the club in the face of more lucrative offers from rival organisations.
