Slip's trip
The thrill of the boudoir has captivated many a mind in the world of fashion. The world of silk and lace has, time and again, proved a muse for designers, from Christian Dior to Dolce Gabbana to Badgley Mischka and Marc Jacobs. This is best exemplified by the slip dress, an extension of the full slip that was never meant to be an outer garment. While the innerwearasouterwear trend has been in circulation for a few years now, thanks to our designerpop star collaborations Madonna and Jean Paul Gaultier, Lady Gaga and Thierry Mugler, to name a few the slip dress has a subtler appeal. Kate Moss, for instance, married longtime beau Jamie Hince in a John Galliano slip gown. (The other Kate, predictably, wasn't similarly inclined.) Being a good accomplice in layering, lending a softer, feminine touch to tougher, billige nike free, tailored outwear, the slip dress also makes for a good transseasonal piece, good example being the Fall/ Winter 2013 shows.
Fall/ Winter 2013's most talked about show was a giant tribute to the slip. At Louis Vuitton in Paris, on a ramp turned into a hotel corridor, doors opened and models (among them a blackwigged Kate Moss) in sheer, embroidered slip dresses walked out. Sometimes worn under long coats, mostly without, the slip dress seduced. (In the end, Marc Jacobs made an appearance in his PJs.)
Narciso Rodriguez's offering came in the form of a beautiful silk slip dresses, among them a mullethem monochrome piece. Hedi Slimane at Saint Laurent, in what was his second readytowear offering for the Parisian house, paired wispy slip dresses with oversized jackets in solids and tartan, while Hakaan gave his some pleats.
